Moon Jar | Ocean’s Edge
This moon jar is glazed in flowing turquoise and sea-green over sandy clay, inspired by the meeting place of water and land. The glaze drips echo the way the tide washes over golden sand and pulls back, leaving rivulets and pools shimmering in the light.
Traditionally, moon jars are celebrated for their rounded, full form, symbolising balance and wholeness. This piece carries that timeless shape while adding a coastal rhythm through its flowing glaze, giving it both sculptural presence and the feeling of standing at the ocean’s edge. It can be enjoyed as a decorative object on its own or used as a vase for dried or fresh flowers.
Handmade in my little studio in Ōhaeawai, Aotearoa, New Zealand, this moon jar is a true one-off.
